Artist Statement

During the Pandemic my access to the Peak District, which has been the main source and inspiration for my photographs was restricted. I began to look at more urban subjects, exploring the city of Derby where I live and rediscovering images of towns and cities further afield.

I found converting my original colour images to black and white, helps to bring out the drama of these urban scenes. The way the natural light plays across buildings or puts people into silhouette. This is work in progress as I begin to understand what for me is a new way of making images.
