Artist Statement

It began with finding two plastic chairs abandonned in a skip and wondering how to upcycle them. After Googling to see how to paint on plastic I then had to decide how to decorate them.

The images were initially inspired by the works of a couple of artists whose styles and subject matter appealed to me. They both focus a lot on women in intimate or self absorbed poses.  Women with strong features and distinct personalities, revealing a glimpse of cleavage or a gaze of maternal love.  I feel these characters lend themselves to the various seated poses that work with this style of chair.
