Artist Statement

As a contemporary abstract artist based in South Derbyshire, my work is inspired by the visual ambiguity of the painted surface. Through a performative approach to paint, I create pieces that offer viewers a space to pause, feel, and reflect. Excited by process, I experiment with a variety of tools and mark-making techniques, using bold colours, collage, texture, and chiaroscuro to build layered, atmospheric surfaces. My art is a cathartic escape from an increasingly frenetic world, inviting moments of stillness and contemplation.

The Endless Flow, Acrylic and Mixed Media on Paper, 46 x 36cm. The Endless Flow is a multi-layered abstract landscape painting. It is inspired as much about the painting and mixed media process as the scene portrayed. A combination of light, structure and the flowing forms of land and water.
Poetry in the Shadows, Acrylic and Mixed Media on Paper, 46 x 36cm. Poetry in the Shadows is an intuitive abstract painting. It is inspired by a combination of light, structure and the poetic forms of the land. A painting created from a deep seated memory of the landscape.

Pathways, Acrylic and Mixed Media on Wood, 33.5 x 33.5cm. Pathways is an expressive textured abstract painting, formed by using layers of acrylic and collage. Trees and pathways emerge from the creative process to form pathways, inviting the viewer on an imaginary journey.
