Anne Mathews – Artist’s Statement
I work mainly in oil and acrylic paint, but also use a small printing press and sometimes combine the two. I believe that artists should aim to appeal to appeal to, and enhance, the viewers’ appreciation of colour, texture and shape.
My subject matter varies, from still lives to work on political themes. However, there are underlying unifying elements, such as my interest in the shapes and structures underlying any subject, and the ( sometimes uneasy) relationship between people and the world they both inhabit and create.
