Artist Statement

I hand carve lettering on limestone and slate with a hammer and chisel, in the same way the Romans carved their inscriptions. Sometimes the letters are inpainted, or gilded with gold leaf, and sometimes left straight from the chisel. Subject matter varies from the vaguely inspirational (I AM WHAT I AM) to the slightly more ribald (ARSE is a perennial favourite). Pieces either hang on the wall or stand on a shelf. My work in stone and silver can be found in a number of churches and cathedrals around the UK.
