Artist Statement

My expressive abstract paintings are an interpretation of how I encounter the world, combined with my desire to explore the painted surface. With each layer, I focus on creating the illusion of light and movement, eluding to a feeling of landscape or architecture.

Inspired by the visceral nature of paint, I use a variety of tools, marks and contrasting elements to create a rich surface that is only partially revealed.

I am intrigued by how we perceive, and through the possibilities of paint, aim to bring joy and colour whilst also challenging these perceptions and emotions.

'Meadow Light', Acrylic & Charcoal on paper, 35.5 x 28cm. Meadow Light is an intuitive semi abstract landscape inspired by light, colour and the texture of the land.
'Essence Vl', Mixed Media on Wood, 33.5 x 33.5cm. Essence Vl is an intuitive expressive landscape. The wooden surface allows for texture and mark making that provides a feeling of flow and undulation. Trees and foliage emerge from a deep seated memory of the land.

'Naiad', Acrylic and ink on canvas, 61 x 50.5cm. Naiad is named after a water nymph in Classical Mythology. The bold contrasts and fall of light reflections suggest a spiritual connection with water.
