Artist Statement

My work explores rhythm and movement, whether through a single line describing the 3 dimensional form it covers (echoing the tracery of stone walls on a hillscape), spontaneous mark making using metal oxides, or by allowing the action of flame on clay to produce its own, otherworldly effects. I work in porcelain and stoneware, and my thrown and hand built forms have a strong, tactile quality. I’m a member of the Blackwell Hall Wood Kiln Group and also use pit firing and raku techniques, striving for a contemporary response to these ancient firing methods.
