David Turner

Artist Statement

Born in Africa in 1962 I moved to the UK as a child being bought up between Oxfordshire and Derbyshire. I trained as a traditional blacksmith starting out in 1990 and for the first seven years worked in various places with some amazing smiths before setting up my forge in Derbyshire.

My work varies between commissioned work ranging from gates and railings to bottle openers and garden sculpture. All my work is to my own design and I’m fascinated by natural forms. I make both traditionally forged and contemporary ironwork, outdoor and indoor sculptural and practical pieces.

I am as happy using centuries old techniques as I am embracing modern technology.
