Artist Statement

I make decorative low fired ceramic bowls, dishes, plates and brooches from a variety of clays using press-moulding & hand building processes.

After dipping and pouring on a range of unusual glazes including a vibrant matt turquoise and tactile crawling glazes, I fire the work in my electric kiln to 1055ºC.

I draw inspiration from observations of the natural world I’ve absorbed throughout my life – from childhood memories of seaside holidays spent beachcombing and rockpooling, to things I see around me from day to day such as lichen growing on a stone wall.

Decorative Plate. Cut from a slab of black clay. Three small feet have been attached to the base. White crawl glaze & white slip under dry turquoise / grey barium glaze. Fired in an electric kiln to 1055ºC. 16 cm Diameter.
Tall Bowls (Sizes 1 & 5.) Press-moulded, terracotta clay, crawl glazes, barium glaze & splashed moss green glaze. Fired in an electric kiln to 1055ºC. 8 cm High & 3.5 cm High.
