Artist Statement

I make decorative low fired ceramic bowls, plates, dishes and brooches in my Nottingham studio from a variety of clays using press moulding and hand building techniques.

Drawing inspiration for my work from observations of the natural world, I dip, pour and brush on a range of glazes, including a vibrant matt turquoise barium glaze and textured ‘crawl’ glazes (so called because they pull or ‘crawl’ away from the clay surface as my electric kiln heats up to 1055ºC) to create colourful and tactile surfaces.

Medium Round Bowl. Press-moulded, black clay, white slip under barium turquoise glaze, white crawl glaze on interior. Electric kiln fired to 1055ºC. 11cm High, 18cm Diameter.
Small Round Bowls (Footed.) Press-moulded, red & black clays & slips, crawl glazes. Fired in an electric kiln to 1055ºC. 6cm High.
