Artist Statement

I create sculptures in stone using traditional carving techniques. My sculptures emerge out of a sense of deep time, pointing to the durability of natural things and the power of endurance of the human spirit.

For me, making sculpture is a conversation with the stone. I respond to forms in the rock, feeling my way through points of resistance, asking what it wants to be. As sculptor, I am an excavator, removing layers to reveal its core.

Inspired by ancient stone sculpture, I see sculpting as both an act of reverence for mother earth and an expression of the human impulse to leave a mark.
