I started making figurative sculptures from upcycled bits and pieces when a neighbour left some fence wire out for the scrapman and I decided to use it as metal armature.
I describe myself as ‘a materials led’. The found materials I use dictate what I make e.g. a broken bicycle mud guard becomes a slide; unwieldy paintbrushes become props for artists whilst old maps are cut up and studied by walkers or cyclists.
My quality control is a ‘giggle queue’ – if the piece doesn’t make me smile it’s not quite finished and returns to my desk for further attention.
