Artist Statement

The inspiration for my paintings comes from walking the land especially remote hilly areas. I enjoy exploring wild, undiscovered places where weather, time and the rhythms of the seasons mould and change the landscape. I record these experiences in my sketchbook.

Back in the studio the work evolves from the drawings and from remembered aspects of the place and the painting becomes a visual equivalent for the experiences of being in the landscape.

The paintings are made using a variety of media including collage, drawn line and layered paint, reflecting the layers of history in the landscape
