Artist Statement

My paintings and drawings shift between the Neo-romantic (wandering figures on long journeys, aspects of nature as metaphors for human joy and sorrow, animal and human figures expressive of mystery and spiritual longing) and pieces that seek to image theological ideas, stories and themes, where the human figure is used to suggest interior contemplative states. My most recent works are small devotional pieces on paper and wood, sometimes making use of found objects. I am also owner of the Manger Gallery in Melbourne, Derbyshire, a small contemplative space which specialises in contemporary imaginative, spiritual and British romantic artwork.
