Artist Statement

I am a professional fine artist based in the historical town of Buxton. Through the use of vibrant colour, intricate pattern and detailed decoration, I explore and celebrate the richness of our architectural heritage. I believe that my background in design, a keen eye for detail and a love of travelling gives me a unique perspective on the built environment: bringing together complex elements and abstracted motifs with a rich colour palette. I have exhibited my work both in the UK and Europe, including at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours Exhibition in London.

‘aDOORnments’ is a collection of door knockers, escutcheons, doorknobs, letterboxes and other door features from French doors, brought together in a meticulously detailed watercolour painting. The elements have been arranged in a grid pattern on one full sheet of imperial sized watercolour paper. Framed size 83cm x 83cm.
‘Blue Tiles’ is inspired by the collection of ceramic tiles in the Arab Hall at Leighton House. I have used elements and motifs from Iznik and Damascene tiles to create this complex tile pattern in watercolour and ink. Framed size 68cm x 68cm.
