Artist Statement

Moonlight on Silver

I design and create sterling silver chainmail jewellery based on ancient and contemporary chainmail weaves.

My inspiration was my daughter’s school project on medieval armour. I made a sample piece of armour for her which developed into making fine, delicate silver jewellery – a complete contrast to heavy steel armour.

Each piece is handmade using tiny silver rings which are individually linked together to create beautifully intricate, sinuous weaves. They are tumble polished for a smooth finish and bright shine.

These earrings are crafted from solid sterling silver rings of two different sizes which align horizontally and vertically to form this traditional weave. Each earring is 45 mm long including the hook and is 8 mm wide. They are available with hook, post and scroll or endless hoop backs.

Solid sterling silver rings are individually linked together to form a Byzantine weave. The Byzantine chain is draped around the ear lobe using both sides of the post and scroll back to create an unusual design. The dangle length is 26mm and the width of the drape is 16mm.

These solid sterling silver earrings are formed from a barrel weave chain which consists of three pairs of barrels graduating to a fine point. They are available with a variety of backs. The drop length is 55mm and the width at the widest part is 8mm.

I have adapted a Full Persian weave, using different sized sterling silver rings, to create the gently curving sides of this pendant. The pendant is 43mm long and 8mm wide. The belcher chain is 1.4mm diamond cut sterling silver and is available in a variety of lengths.
