Artist Statement

I design and make forms with an intended sense of tranquility and harmony. Those who view my work will hopefully see something of these qualities and connect with the piece in their own way.

Japanese traditional art remains a strong influence for my ceramics and I am currently working on a series of thrown and slabbed bottles, plates and jars combining coarse stoneware clays and porcelain.

My starting point is generally a small model or drawings. Test pieces follow to explore form, scale, texture, mechanical strength etc. Some pieces are part of a repeat series and others are individual.
