Simon Sneath – Artist Statement

I work with stoneware, porcelain and coarse crank clays using throwing and slab building techniques. My starting points are generally drawings or 3D sketches. Maquettes follow to explore form, scale, texture, mechanical strength etc. before I make the final piece.

My plates, jars and constructions are “one off” items while the lanterns, with their origins in a visit to Japan, are part of an ongoing repeat series.

I make everything with an intended sense of peace and tranquility and I hope those who view my work will see something of these qualities and connect with it in their own way.
