My Paintings have always been a response to my immediate environment. It has always been important for me to immerse myself in the landscape, to linger in the edgelands and overlooked spaces. To wander through the spaces and try and represent the essence and energy of that experience.
My work always begins with a walk, this is where the creative journey begins. Spending this valuable time in the landscape over the seasons helps to inform my practice and my work often reflects the seasons as they appear, a time to focus and absorb the changes and to have a stripped back approach to capturing the natural shapes and textures.
