Childhood is a recurring theme throughout my work. The starting point may be an imperfect familial snapshot, an Edwardian postcard or a detail from an old painting. I like to experiment with oils and pastels and various ideas that surface as I paint. Playing with colour is integral in creating a certain atmosphere or mood and developing the idea of an internal landscape. I would love to produce enough curiosity in the viewer that they could say “let’s pretend there’s a way through.” Lewis Caroll.
